I am no blogging expert. I am learning as I’m going. Some things I fuck up, somethings I pick up. Most things I just wing it. Either way here 1 thing I’ve learnt as a book blogger part 36
Well that’s fucking given, isn’t it? That’s why we are all here right? So let me talk numbers for a second. I currently have 457 requests. Yes, 457. Now let me go through and count how many I have actually done (first let me eat my chicken pie before it goes cold.)
(Nevermind the pie was shit, my dog Missy ended up with half of it.)
251 is the reviews I have done. (Actually, that’s not as bad as it seems, just looks shit in my journal) I also have 5 books marked yellow, which means I never received a copy from the Author. I also have 24 that I tried to read and DNF. These books are below 50% when I stopped so I didn’t bother doing reviews for them.
So 251 + 5 + 24 =280 (Hey, I can do math)
457-280 = 177 requests to do (I cheated, I used a calculator)
Now, these numbers will have changed by the time this post goes live. I have been ignoring my emails for a while now.
Now the maths is out of the way. What the fuck was I getting at? I keep thinking about closing my requests due to the high volume of requests I get, plus the number of reviews I have left to do. I feel like I am cheating on my earlier requests with a book that looks more interesting and just got requested. I feel the need to focus on getting my requests done.
So why haven’t I closed my requests? Because I like the unknown. I like magically finding a great Author, a great series because I have kept my doors open. You go through phases of reading meh, or okay books, books you just like. Then every so often, come across a book that makes your brain explode and gets you excited. Nita Round book was the latest that did that for me.
I also like helping people, its a huge part of who I am as a person. Plus in the long run, I hope when I start publishing my own works, that the people I have helped in the past will then maybe help me. Share the love.
Sorry, this was a bit longer than I normally do. Hope you enjoyed. Also, would you guys like to know more of my numbers/statics?
I’m a numbers girl. I find comfort in stats

I was surprised I liked the numbers too, made me feel like I am actually getting somewhere with my request pile.

As someone who does a stats and graphic post at least three times a year, I could never say no to a stats post. 😉

hehe I’m too scared to open my requests, cos I know I’ll feel bad saying no to people 😉 But yeah I get what you mean about being intrigued by the unknown!

You’ll be surprised how easy it is to say no to some people. Specially the people who don’t bother reading your policy.

Haha. The moral strife to do the job proper is inspiring. Genuine!

Why do the job at all if you aren’t going to do it properly. 😛
