I am no blogging expert. I am learning as I’m going. Some things I fuck up, somethings I pick up. Most things I just wing it. Either way here 1 thing I’ve learnt as a book blogger part 34;
So does it? Does it what? Lady, you haven’t said shit. (If you’ve not noticed, I have been talking to myself a lot lately, sorry for that. New flat all alone with a dog, you tend to go a little crazy)
Right. Serious time. So does blogging and reviewing books, take the love and passion away from reading? Does it take the fun away? I am in the middle with this one. In some areas, yes it does make reading more of a job than something you do as a past time. But then again before blogging, I read maybe 3 books a month, and that is being generous. I am lucky that I can switch from review reading to relaxed/normal reading. What do I mean by that? Well, let me explain.
Review reading = very focused on catching mistakes, analyzing the story as a whole as well as in parts. Does it work? What can be improved? Did I enjoy it? Are generally the key things I think when reading. Also, I feel a big need to rush the story to finish it.
Relaxed/normal reading = no rushing to finish the book, take my time and enjoy it. No need to be 100% focused on finding mistakes.
I am lucky I can switch between the two. Sometimes if the story is that good with a review copy, I tend to go into a relaxed reading mode. If it not that good but I am still enjoying it, it full reviewing mode. Since my break, the books that don’t 100% suck me in, I have been getting the urge to skim read more. I rarely, if ever skim read. The only ones I have done it on are like 2-star reads. But it generally after I’ve read like 30% of the book. Then it just a sentence here and there.
I generally read books to enjoy, then write what I feel… I rarely try to analyze. If I am blocked for words, I wait for the following day. If I am still blocked, I don’t review..
I used to be under pressure, but now I just do what I want to

I think i read the book the same way whether i’m planning to review or not.
Sometimes I think i won’t review a book, but it made me feel very strongly about something so i change my mind and do post a review 😀 But it can go the other way round as well.
I think this helps me not stress about reading.

I’m so far behind with book reviews right now … I must admit though, it does seem to take me longer to read a book specifically for review. I’m the same with reading styles though and can switch between them as I need too. I wouldnt say it ever takes the enjoyment out of reading though.

Reviewing books does not take the enjoyment away for me, what takes the enjoyment away is having to read on a schedule. I have been signing up for book tours and I am finding that I need to be careful about signing up for too many, that makes it a chore instead of enjoyment.
