Rating: 4/5 (Really liked it)

Official Summary:  “New Hopeland City may have been built to be the centerpiece of the technological age, but some remnants of the old world still linger. The tools of the trade have changed, but the corruption remains the same, even in the criminal underworld …

When PI Cassie Tam and her girlfriend Lori try to make up for their recent busy schedules with a night out at the theatre to watch the Tech Shift performer Kitsune, the last thing they expected was for Cassie to get a job offer. But some people are never off the clock, and by the end of the evening, Cassie has been drawn into a mundane but highly paid missing pet case. Unfortunately, in New Hopeland City, even something as simple as little lost dog can lead you down some dark paths.

Until now, Cassie wasn’t aware that there even was a rabbit hole, let alone how far down it goes.” – Goodreads

Review: The added notes at the back from the Tech Shift Gear Welcome Pack was a really nice touch. It added that extraness to the world build, plus shows how much the Author has thought about things. It shows he really cares about the world he is building.

Primarily the story is a crime thriller. Cassie is on a case and you get to go on a ride with her. Then you have the extra added layers to the cake; Sci-fi, Futuristic, Mystery and a lesbian main character. The extra layers are key parts of the story but don’t overpower the basic goal of telling a crime story. They just add that extra sweetness to an already great story. It makes it different, fresh and new.

Another huge thing that adds to the story is Lori and Cassie relationship. They are both from a relationship that wasn’t perfect. So both are in their own little shells, trying to get comfortable with each other. The relationship isn’t forced, it feels real and realistic. There is no rush there.
