Interview with Jordan Antonacci

LF: Tell us about your book.

JA: So, The Killed Conscience is a mystery that follows amateur investigative journalist Emilee Weathers—a young woman whose ambition for the perfect story ultimately cause her to throw herself into some very dangerous and threatening situations. When Emilee finds this body that resembles victims of an already convicted killer, Emilee begins her own investigation. However, when she realizes everyone around her has their own agenda and hidden secrets, things get messy quick.

BUT… despite the serial killer and the dead innocent women, at its heart, The Killed Conscience is a bit of a love story. The message of it is that we’ll always look past the bad in order to see the good in those we love. It’s about the madness of love, and how much we’ll do for those we care for.

LF: Being a writer involves a lot of work, why do you do it?

JA: Though some may call it work, I don’t see it that way at all. For me, writing, creativity and creation is honestly just what I’m drawn to. If I’m not doing it, I feel a bit off balance. Even if I never “make it,” I’ll always keep writing.

Now, what comes after the writing—that’s work. Ha-ha. All the editing, emailing, scheduling, etc. That’s just what comes with it, though. To put it simply, I do it because I wouldn’t rather be doing anything else.

LF: Do you feel different now that you finally after a book out there in the wide world?

JA: I suppose so. A small sense of accomplishment. Honestly, I won’t feel different unless I’ve made an impact. And though I love the story, it’s incredibly difficult standing out in a sea of millions—all chasing the same thing. But I’m definitely proud of myself. I feel like I’ve really gotten the hang of the craft, after years of having to watch myself write pure shit. This book is certainly a step up from the other two I wrote. Hopefully we keep going up from here and one day I put something out there that’ll truly make me feel different.

LF: Did you ever realize there is a lot more than just writing involved with becoming an Author?

JA: No. (Nervous laughter). I wrote my first book just because it was on my bucket list. I wrote the second one then just hit publish on Amazon. With this one, I did my research. I learned about all the different marketing and promotional approaches. I had five different beta readers and wrote a new draft after the input of each one, I set up two tours and a blitz… there was a lot of scheduling and a shit ton of emailing. There’s a whole lot more involved, especially if you’re independent. It was definitely work, but it was also fun.

LF: Plans for the future/current project?

JA: Big, big plans. I’ve been fantasizing about this series for the past like, six years. I can’t say much without spoilers, but there was—as I’ve been told relentlessly—a huge cliffhanger at the end of this first. The next book will pickup a couple of weeks after all the drama. Emilee will still have her dangerous ambition, and all I can say is that it’ll definitely put her in the highest water she’s been in yet.
