Official Summary: “The land of Embhra is ruled by magic—and it’s ruining everything.
Gods and sorcerers jealously hoard their power, and innocent people everywhere are suffering for the cause of those who wield magic. Sygne and Jamal are hoping they can change that. She’s a scientist. He’s a former soldier and aspiring poet-singer.
With her brains and his bravado, they might just make a difference. It also helps that they are on course to find a primordial Ancient One that might hold the key to changing the entire world. Not so helpful: both a war goddess and a love goddess want to see them dead!” – Goodreads
Review: I enjoyed it, it was simple to a point but at the same time complex with all the different places and God stuff. It did stick to one place, one city. But it expanded on that with people from different places and different religions. The way the God/Goddess side of things was well done. It was unique in its own way, especially with how they talked.
I liked how one of the main characters is with all her talk of science and explaining how things work. It like she can’t help herself but explain the ‘magic’. It added a nice tone to the story. Also made it a little surprising. A lot of books based on Gods/Goddess never go near the science element of how the ‘magic’ works. They tend to avoid that side like the plague.
