I am no blogging expert. I am learning as I’m going. Some things I fuck up, somethings I pick up. Most things I just wing it. Either way here 1 thing I’ve learnt as a new book blogger part 6;
Staying Organized
I knew from the get-go that I needed to be very organized in order to keep track of everything. First thing I did when I started this blog was to get a notebook. In the back, I list all the book requests I have gotten.
- NAME OF BOOK by Author 01JAN18
If it has a date next to it, means I have read it and that is the date the review post will go live. I always color it in green once I have written the post. When it is live I then post my review to Goodreads, Amazon, Twitter, and Instagram. Then the number for the book in this case 1. I then highly it in blue to show that it all done and dusted. This is just one thing I keep track of, other things I keep track of are the following;
People I have said No to and the reason why I did.
Publishing houses I have a working relationship with have their own pages.
Audiobooks I keep separate because these are not requests.
Also, books that I have requested or I own, I keep a separate list because again these are not requests sent to me.
I know that is a lot. But I like keeping track of things, keeping things structured. It gives me a little piece of mind. Plus something to panic at with all the requests. It is completely up to you and your own blog style whether you keep organized or not. This is your time and your enjoyment.
I agree, organization definitely helps make things a lot smoother. I have become a big fan of scheduling posts in advance so I can write when I’m inspired, or take time off when I need it! This year I have been using a spreadsheet to keep track of books read: Title, Author, Type of book, Source (shelves, Netgalley, etc), genre, and my rating. It’s great to have everything in one place for quick reference!

Exactly. I should really use a spreadsheet but at the same time I like using pen and paper 😛

Ah. I started a spreadsheet too for books read… you juts gave me n idea for yet another column (shelves, NG, etc)! Thanks! 😉
I keep my notebook for the books I keep finding recommended on other blogs or ones that I pick up for free via bookbub. Usually noting whether I’ve gotten the whole book or just a sample.

Yay for being organised! I have a spreadsheet to keep me honest too and to plan out what I want to write about over the coming months, which helps keep me focused – even when ‘bah no brain can’t review BUT I could draft that future Top Ten Tuesday because HA BRAIN we only need pictures and enthusiasm’…

I just tend to plan out which books I want to read and review for a month then squeeze any book from Netgalley on weeks that have free days. 😅 So far so good though but I think I want to try your method. 😁

I kind of do that, then I see something I really have to read or I am trying to start a new working relationship right. So I tend to squish in publishing houses books before others, just so they can see I have the work ethic. Plus half of them are books I have requested myself.

True, I also prioritize the books that I requested.

You kind of have to I think. To set an example plus blogging is also about yourself. You have to find that balance.

Not really, at least you don’t have a cat trying to sit on it and rip a page.

I’ve been on the hunt for the right method for me, and I’m starting to think it’s a combination of things. Visuals help me stay focused, so I’ve been working that angle lately, and it’s helped a lot. Do you also have a reading/blog schedule?

I try to read 50% a day, depends on book size eg. I have set days I post reviews been as I do 4 a week. I have to keep ahead of myself else the panic comes in because I need to read a book in x-many days.

Oh, I wish I could read 50% a day! Then again, it’s rare I find a book that holds my attention for that long, so I tend to juggle multiple books at once. I couldn’t possibly review four a week unless they were comics or short stories! You must be a very speedy reader. 😀

Not really, just have the time if I don’t have work. One is a short or children book though 😛
